Statement
In an attempt to make an honest statement about my work I find myself forced to minimize any attempt to literally explain what it is that I paint about. The art I create is the expression of my experience. I can however describe what it is that I have been doing with the materials that come to hand and to mind. These materials are elements of dream, memory, movement, numerology, personal and archetypal myth, and texture. I find myself discovering within these materials certain symmetries, systematic links to the geometry of form, magnitude and shape. In this sense I understand myself to be working on a personal level, on a kind of mathematics. In the process I sometimes find myself stumbling into themes and configurations that may have some universal significance, although I leave that decision entirely up to the viewer and allow my own preoccupation with the discipline of inquiry and discovery to be my motivation.
